Land Transaction Tax is payable on the purchase of residential and non-residential property and land in Wales, administered by the Welsh Revenue Authority rather than HMRC. Like its counterparts elsewhere in the UK, it is generally the buyer's responsibility, and applies across a broad range of transaction types.

The bands, rates and reliefs are set separately from those in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so buyers should not assume figures from elsewhere apply. Reliefs exist for certain circumstances, and additional charges can apply to purchases of second homes or investment property, making early advice worthwhile before agreeing a purchase.
