Issues to consider when running your own business.

All General business factsheets

The Bribery Act 2010 makes it a criminal offence to give, offer, request or accept a bribe, and it applies broadly across UK businesses regardless of size or sector. Notably, a company can be held liable if someone associated with it commits bribery on its behalf, even without the company's knowledge or involvement.

The main defence available to a business is having adequate procedures in place designed to prevent bribery, such as a clear policy, risk assessments, training and due diligence on third parties. Even small businesses benefit from having something in place proportionate to their size and risk. We can point you towards practical steps to help demonstrate compliance.
