Concise information on ICT matters.
Allowing employees to use their own phones, tablets or laptops for work, commonly known as BYOD, can reduce equipment costs and increase flexibility, but it also blurs the line between personal and business data. Without clear rules, sensitive business information can end up stored, backed up or shared in ways the business has no control over.
A good BYOD policy sets out what's permitted, minimum security requirements such as passcodes and encryption, how business data is kept separate from personal use, and what happens to that data if an employee leaves or a device is lost. Getting this right protects both the business and its clients, and is worth revisiting as technology evolves.
